submission and publication update for July 2016

Hey! I wrote stuff this month! And stuff was published, too!

It’s like I’m a writer or something.

PUBLISHED

“Stand Up”, my story of an autistic, nongendered superhero, appeared as Episode 34 of The Overcast podcast.

My narration of “Bluejay” by Edward Ashton appeared as Episode 535 of Escape Pod.

CONSIDERING

87 Bedford, AE, Allegory, Analog, Angry Robot Books, Blue Monday Review, Breakroom Stories, Crossed Lines Superhero Anthology, Damsels in Success, ECM Network, Electric Literature, Fox & Raven Publishing, Giganotosaurus, Grasslimb, Horror Library, Manor House, Omicron’s Automobilia Anthology, OSC:IGMS, Pantheon, Persistent Visions, Read Short Fiction, SFMH Contest, Space Squid, Straeon, The Binge Watching Cure, The Stoneslide Corrective

Also, I got a quick (two-week turnaround) rejection on a novel from Quirk Books. I’m pretty sure this one is going to be the book I put out in November, unless the last publisher it’s out at decides they want it.

STUFF I WROTE

I haven’t done any more work on the pseudonym book, but I did write another five chapters or so of my MG portal fantasy novel. The whole thing is outlined — 54 chapters in total, but they’re no more than 1500 words each (so far). That puts the book about the length of the first Harry Potter. Maybe shorter.

My friend Beau Hall, author of Snapshot, has joined me to form a two-person writing group. So far he’s critiqued the first half of a zombie story I wrote, and I’ve looked at a bunch of his ideas to help him develop them.

I wrote two columns this month, and finished up a third. I also reviewed Swiss Army Man for Escape Pod.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

“I am a carefully perpetrated illusion. I function as a human being because I have very carefully controlled my environment to manipulate myself into productivity – my social life is carefully orchestrated, my social media is designed to allow me the personal contact I need, my outings brief and preplanned.” -Ferrett Steinmetz, author

About Josh Roseman

Josh Roseman (not the trombonist; the other one) has been published in -- among others -- Asimov's, Escape Pod, and Evil Girlfriend Media. He's published two short-story collections, THE CLOCKWORK RUSSIAN and BOSS FIGHT, as well as a novel, AFTER THE APOCALYPSE. When not writing, he mostly complains that he's not writing. Find him online at roseplusman.com, or on Twitter @listener42.
