My birthday is this month (as is our esteemed editor’s, as it happens). I’m not looking forward to it. In fact, for the past several years, I haven’t looked forward to my birthday. It’s just… not a thing anymore.
SIX OF THE BEST… alternatives to classic board games
Do you groan when someone in your family pulls out Monopoly, knowing that you’re about to be in for three hours of hell, ending when you all give up because no one is ever going to win? Well, then, this column is for you, because I’m about to give you six of the best alternatives to classic board games.
SIX OF THE BEST… reasons not to buy a smartwatch
Unless you’ve been living completely off the grid — in which case, how are you reading this? — you’re aware that Apple is releasing a highly-touted wearable called the iWatch. It’s coming this Friday, and you absolutely, positively don’t need it… or any other smartwatch.
SIX OF THE BEST… things about starting a restrictive diet
This gallery contains 3 photos.
My latest Nerdery Public column is SIX OF THE BEST… things about starting a restrictive diet, and to my surprise, it doesn’t suck as bad as I’d thought.
SIX OF THE BEST… animated Star Trek episodes
As a (hopefully) regular reader of this column, you should know by now that I love Star Trek. Even the Animated Series. It’s only 22 episodes, but it’s better than you might expect. Here are six to watch.
SIX OF THE WORST… side effects of losing your memory
I’m posting this on April 1, but it’s no joke.
I’m losing my memory. No one knows why. And it sucks.
“Amid The Steep Sky’s Commotion”
Way back in 2010, Khimairal Ink published “Amid the Steep Sky’s Commotion: a Tale of the Airship Ozymandias”. The story has been given new life by Marshal Latham and the Journey Into podcast, where it’s been performed by a full cast. Listen here.

SIX OF THE BEST… things to reset when changing jobs
Changing jobs allows you to — for the most part — completely reset yourself, work-wise.
SIX OF THE BEST… reasons to sleep with your clothes on
There are some times when you just don’t want to sleep naked, or you can’t, or it doesn’t feel right. And that’s perfectly okay. Hell, even if you never want to sleep naked, that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you.
Movie Review: “Cinderella”
As both Honest Trailers and CinemaSins have recently shown, there are some problems with Disney’s retelling of the Cinderella story. But it’s such a huge part of the Disney empire that we were bound to get a new one at some point. Welp, we certainly did.

SIX OF THE WORST… things about applying for jobs
Isn’t it great when you go to a company’s careers page, click “apply”, and all it asks for is your name, email, website, and a resume? It doesn’t make you put in all your job history; it doesn’t make you answer silly questions; it doesn’t make you sign up for an account. Why can’t more companies do that?
SIX OF THE BEST… weird Google searches I made in 2015 (so far)
I recently had the occasion to go through my Google history looking for an article I’d closed but wanted to share with a friend. I happened to find my search history at the same time, and oh boy did I make some weird ones.
SIX OF THE BEST… on-screen Batmen
There have been six major on-screen iterations of Batman (not counting Saturday morning cartoons when he was part of the Justice League or the Scooby Doo team), and this is a column about six things, so… well… match made in heaven.
SIX OF THE BEST… ways to spend this weekend instead of seeing Fifty Shades of Grey
Unfortunately, both the book and the film are not what the advertising says. They’re not romantic, and they’re not good portrayals of healthy BDSM. I’d personally rather you didn’t spend your money on them.
SIX OF THE WORST… even-numbered Star Trek films
It’s generally accepted that the even-numbered Star Trek films are the best of the bunch. Each film is pretty good, but there are flaws, some of them big enough for the guy from CinemaSins to drive a Mack Truck through. I’ve made a list for you: six of the worst even-numbered Star Trek films.
SIX OF THE BEST… things about polyamory
If you’ve never thought about polyamory, I’m not saying you have to. I’m just saying, here are six of the best things about it, couched in definitions of what it isn’t.
“A Guided Tour in the Kingdom of the Dead” by Richard Harland
I’m performing “A Guided Tour in the Kingdom of the Dead” by Richard Harland in this episode of Far Fetched Fables. Fast-forward to 53:30, and please excuse my lack of an Australian accent, as I was asked not to do one.

SIX OF THE BEST… things about American Girls
Parents and relatives of girl-children I’m sure let out a massive groan when they hear the latest exploit of the American Girl doll company. They complain that the dolls are expensive, that the company artificially inflates demand by limiting supply, that the stores are a madhouse most of the time. And all of those things are true.
